Food waste is something I've always hated. As a family of four we go through a lot of food here and that means we create an awful lot of food waste too. Not just those things that expire in the fridge before we get to them, but also bread crusts and food scraps from the endless food preparation that goes on from day to day. Here are some simple things we do (and you can too!) to reduce the amount of food that's sent to landfill:
Create a compost heap
If you have a garden of any sort, a compost heap is the thing for you. Not only can it be a home for your leftover food but you can also add green waste and animal manure to it. Not to mention that in no time at all you'll have some lovely compost material to add back to your garden.
Get a Bokashi or indoor compost bucket
If you don't have a compost heap or you produce a lot of food waste you might want to consider an indoor compost bucket. These clever little systems are odour-free and small enough to keep inside a cupboard...
