It's almost time to start school for the year and I know that many of you will be trawling the supermarket shelves to try and find the best lunchbox for your children. You want something that's going to hold everything you need it to, be leak-proof, not too expensive and in a colour or pattern that is child-approved. A little bit of thought now can save you hours of lunchbox packing this year. My biggest tip is to get a Bento-style box which allows you to add lots of fresh, healthy foods without having to use plastic wrap or a lot of small containers.
Here are my top picks for a litter-free lunch:
My lunchbox of choice is the Yumbox. I use these for both of my children (at school and daycare) and I'm even considering getting one for myself too. In my opinion, these are the best of the best. They fit a surprising amount of food in, are totally leak-proof (you can even put yoghurt in there without it spilling out!), are easy for little hands to open and close, and they also make packing a breeze. The divided sections are labelled to help you decide what to put in each part and ensure you provide a well-balanced selection. We use the original ones but there's a few sizes to choose from now. Unless you get one of the Panino sized ones, it can be tricky to fit in a whole sandwich in the Original size. They are pricey but worth it if you can afford the investment. The snack boxes are also great too!
This was our go-to lunchbox before we upgraded to the Yumbox. This lunchbox holds ALOT of food and has a large section that can fit a sandwich or wrap as well. The lid seals well so you don't need to worry about leakages but it is pretty tricky to get it on and off for little hands. These days I use this one to hold a range of snacks for a day out. It easily holds enough snacks for two people, or lunch for a big person!
This one fits a lot of food and is perfect for those that like a nice big salad sandwich each day. The three separate storage parts allow you to include fruit and vegetables with ease. This box is not leak-proof but does allow for the inclusion of removable leak-proof containers if you want to include things like yoghurt. Beware the wandering lids though! Comes with a range of compatible containers and carry bags and is readily available in most supermarkets.
This ones includes 1 large compartment perfect for a sandwich or wrap and 2 smaller ones. While it is not leak-proof it also includes 2 leak-proof dipper containers that can be added. It can be personalised with Goodbyn stickers and extra dippers are sold separately too. The lid might be tricky for little hands and is separate to the container so also risks getting lost.
